Born in Rome in 1972, Pierroberto Folgiero graduated in Economics & Business from Luiss University in 1995 and later received an honorary degree in Engineering from the University of Trieste. He is also an alumnus of the Executive Education Program in General Management at INSEAD (Fontainebleau). After starting his career in corporate finance consulting, Folgiero advanced into executive management within the telecommunications industry during the early 2000s, playing a key role in the start-up of Wind across finance, strategy, and business development. His expertise in corporate restructuring was further proven in 2008, when he joined Tirrenia di Navigazione as General Manager to oversee the privatization of the state-owned shipping company. Prior to his current role, he dedicated 12 years to the Oil & Gas Engineering and Construction industry as CEO of Maire Tecnimont, leading the Milan-listed multinational through a successful business turnaround toward sustainable chemistry solutions. Since May 2022, he has served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Fincantieri, guiding the global shipbuilding giant toward the industrial evolution of digital and eco-friendly ships, as well as pioneering advancements in the underwater sector. As a strong advocate of open innovation and cross-sector collaboration, Folgiero sits on several boards, think tanks, and associations. He is also actively involved in start-up scouting and selection programs, with a particular focus on fostering innovative ideas, developing new business models, and supporting young talent.
